ColorMax-1000 — Industrial Color Sensor with 15-Color Recognition

The ColorMax-1000 is an industrial color sensor from EMX that recognizes up to 15 colors on opaque surfaces, with analog RGB output values for fine process control. Switching frequency up to 20 kHz, M30 housing, and USB/RS232 configuration make the sensor ideal for sorting and packaging lines.

  • Recognizes up to 15 different colors
  • Delivers analog RGB values instead of just match/no-match
  • Up to 20 kHz switching frequency — 2-5x faster than comparable sensors
  • M30 threaded housing, range up to 500mm (Super Range)
  • White balance configuration via included software
  • USB and RS232 interface

ColorMax-1000 — industrial color sensor with 15-color recognition

In sorting, packaging, and quality control processes, it's not enough to know that a color is off — often the exact color present must be determined. EMX Industries' ColorMax-1000 delivers this with recognition of up to 15 different colors on opaque surfaces.

Where traditional color sensors only give a match/no-match signal, the ColorMax-1000 also delivers the analog RGB values of each reading. This means operators and control systems see not just which color is detected, but how much of that color is present — enabling finer process control than simple color-mark sensors allow.

The sensor uses a high-intensity white LED that projects modulated light onto the target, with a switching frequency of up to 20 kHz — two to five times faster than comparable color sensors, making the ColorMax-1000 suitable for high-speed lines. The signature M30 threaded housing simplifies mounting and adjustment, and is available in a standard range or as a Super Range version reaching up to 500mm, allowing mounting away from moving machine parts.

Configuration is handled via the included ColorMax Windows software, including a white balance function that lets you easily set correction factors for red, green, and blue — practical when using multiple sensors that need to be matched to one another. Communication runs via USB or RS232.

The ColorMax-1000 is available in different spot sizes (4mm, 8mm, or 25mm) and with 1, 4, 7, or 15 color channels depending on the chosen version — allowing the sensor to be precisely matched to the required accuracy and number of colors to distinguish. Certain FLEX models also offer data logging, valuable for quality reporting and traceability in regulated sectors such as automotive and pharmaceutical packaging. The standard operating range of 30 to 150mm is suited to mounting directly above the production line.

Applications include sorting systems, packaging verification, carpet, paper, and plastic sheet manufacturing, and converting processes where fast, reliable color recognition is essential for quality assurance.
