ColorMax VIEW — color sensor for transparent materials

Standard reflectance-based color sensors fall short with translucent and transparent materials such as PET bottles, glass, and films — light passes through them rather than bouncing back. EMX Industries' ColorMax VIEW was purpose-built for this challenge, using thru-beam color detection that sends light straight through the material instead of reflecting it.

This approach enables high-speed, inline color verification of transparent and semi-transparent products without sacrificing accuracy. With the same advanced RGB color measurement and switching frequency up to 20 kHz as the ColorMax-1000, the VIEW variant detects color deviations directly during production, reducing rejects and material loss.

The sensor is available in different range options, allowing mounting away from the production line without sacrificing detection accuracy. Like the rest of the ColorMax family, VIEW delivers analog RGB output values alongside a discrete match/no-match signal, and configuration is possible via USB or RS232 using the included Windows software.

The ColorMax VIEW is available with an operating range of 50 to 500mm, giving installers the freedom to mount the sensor at a suitable distance from the production line without losing detection accuracy. The M30 cylindrical metal housing with glass lens withstands the humid, often harsh environment of washing and packaging lines. With up to 4 programmable color channels and PNP/NPN discrete outputs alongside the analog RGB values, the sensor is easy to integrate into both simple and complex control systems.
