Safety at automatic gates and industrial doors depends on reliable obstacle detection. EMX Industries' IRB-MON is a UL325-certified thru-beam safety photoeye, consisting of a transmitter and receiver, that prevents a gate from closing while a vehicle, person, or object is still present in the opening.
A key feature of the IRB-MON is its lensless technology: whereas traditional photoeyes use a lens prone to condensation and dirt buildup, the IRB-MON works without one and is therefore less susceptible to misalignment and performance loss caused by weather. In practice, that means fewer faults and less maintenance, especially for outdoor installations.
The set offers a range of up to 35 meters (115ft), more than enough for most gate and barrier applications, and features 4 monitoring interfaces for integration with various types of gate controllers. The NEMA 4X housing protects the transmitter and receiver against weather and dirt.
The 4 selectable monitoring interfaces make the IRB-MON compatible with virtually any type of gate controller, from simple relay integration to advanced monitored systems requiring a continuous 300Hz 'heartbeat' signal for UL325 compliance. With a response time of less than 300 milliseconds, the sensor reacts almost instantly to an interrupted beam. The LED alignment indicator on the receiver significantly simplifies installation, giving installers direct visual feedback when aligning transmitter and receiver — a common source of installation errors with traditional photoeyes.
Applications include automatic gates, industrial doors, barriers, and other access systems where UL325-compliant safety detection is required or desired — whether for new installations or upgrading existing setups to current safety standards. For managers overseeing multiple sites, compatibility with various gate controller brands also enables a uniform safety solution across the entire portfolio.
