IRB-4X2 Infrared Photoeye Kit (Thru-Beam)

The IRB-4X2 is a lens-free infrared thru-beam photoeye kit, built for reliable safety detection at garage doors, rolling doors and parking barriers. The lens-free design reduces sensitivity to fog, dust and sunlight.

  • Easier installation thanks to lens-free design
  • Less prone to faults from fog, dust and bright sunlight
  • Wide alignment tolerance simplifies positioning
  • Works without additional amplifiers or relay boxes
  • Broadly compatible with different control boards

IRB-4X2 Infrared Photoeye Kit (Thru-Beam)

At a garage door, rolling door, or parking barrier, a photoeye is one of the most fundamental safety provisions: without reliable detection of an obstruction in the door path, there's a risk that a closing door could strike a person or vehicle. Many lens-based photoeyes, however, are sensitive to contamination, condensation, or misalignment, leading to faults over time. The IRB-4X2 is built as a simple, reliable, lens-free solution that largely avoids these issues.

Lens-free design for easier alignment

Because the IRB-4X2 uses no lenses, the kit is less sensitive to fog, dust, snow, and bright sunlight than many lens-based alternatives. That not only simplifies installation (alignment is less critical), but also reduces the likelihood of faults from contamination of the optical surface, a common cause of failure with traditional photoeyes in dusty or humid environments.

Thru-beam configuration with a wide range

The kit consists of a transmitter and receiver mounted opposite each other, with an operating range up to 35 metres. The receiver offers a wide 24-degree alignment tolerance, making positioning during installation easier compared to narrower-beam alternatives that require more precise alignment.

Modulated infrared against environmental interference

The use of modulated infrared light, combined with an electronic sunlight filter and automatic temperature compensation, limits the impact of sunlight, rain, fog, and dust on detection. The kit can see through up to 70% obstruction from fog, steam, or spray without causing false detection or failure.

Simple integration

The IRB-4X2 works with virtually any control board that accepts a dry contact input, without needing additional signal amplifiers or relay boxes. That makes the kit broadly deployable across different brands and types of door operators, without compatibility issues.

Important note for specification

The IRB-4X2 isn't suitable for applications requiring UL325-compliant, monitored protection. Those kinds of projects call for a monitored photoeye, such as the IRB-MON2. For regular safety, reversing, or opening functions without that specific certification requirement, the IRB-4X2 is a practical, reliable choice.

Where this is used in practice

The IRB-4X2 is widely used at garage doors, rolling doors, parking barriers, and similar door automation, where simple, robust safety detection is needed without the complexity or cost of a monitored system.
