IRB-MON2 Universal Monitored Photoeye Kit (UL325)

The IRB-MON2 is a universal, UL325-compliant monitored thru-beam photoeye kit for gate and door automation. With four monitoring protocols and an LED alignment indicator, the kit provides reliable entrapment protection, also suited to upgrading existing installations.

  • Meets UL325 safety standard for monitored protection
  • Four monitoring protocols, broadly compatible with controllers
  • LED alignment indicator simplifies installation
  • Also detects faults in the sensor itself
  • Also works with non-monitored, legacy systems

IRB-MON2 Universal Monitored Photoeye Kit (UL325)

At gate and door automation where a monitored safety device is required, such as projects that need to comply with the UL325 safety standard, a standard photoeye isn't enough. A monitored system needs to not just detect an obstruction, but continuously check its own operation and actively signal a fault, so a failed sensor doesn't go unnoticed. The IRB-MON2 is built to meet exactly this requirement.

UL325 compliant with four monitoring protocols

The IRB-MON2 supports four different monitoring interfaces: normally closed, 10K resistive termination, and two-wire pulse on both two- and three-frequency bases. That versatility means the photoeye is compatible with a wide range of gate and door controllers requiring monitored external safety devices, without needing a separate product for each brand of controller.

Thru-beam detection with a wide range

Like the non-monitored IRB-4X2, the IRB-MON2 works on the thru-beam principle, with transmitter and receiver mounted opposite each other, and an operating range up to 35 metres. A green LED alignment indicator on the receiver shows status during installation, considerably simplifying alignment and verifying a correct setup.

Broadly deployable, including legacy installations

Beyond monitored operation, the IRB-MON2 is also compatible with most non-monitored, older systems that use standard NC/NO contacts. That makes the photoeye a practical choice for renovation projects where an existing, non-monitored installation may be upgraded to a monitored configuration in the future, without needing to replace the photoeye itself.

Robust housing for indoor and outdoor use

The housing is IP65 rated and suited to both indoor and outdoor applications. The robust construction limits fogging and false triggering, contributing to easier alignment and less maintenance over the installation's lifetime.

Why monitoring actually makes a difference

The difference between a non-monitored photoeye and the IRB-MON2 isn't in the basic detection function, but in what happens if the sensor itself fails. In a non-monitored system, a failed photoeye can go unnoticed, risking a door or gate closing without actually detecting an obstruction. In a monitored system like the IRB-MON2, that kind of fault is actively reported back to the controller, which can respond by preventing the door from closing.

Where this is used in practice

The IRB-MON2 is used at any gate or door automation where UL325-compliant, monitored protection is required, such as commercial barriers, industrial gates, and publicly accessible access roads where a higher safety level is needed than with a regular, non-monitored application.
