LabelX Label Sensor — Fast Detection of Labels and Label Gaps

LabelX is a high-speed label detection sensor from EMX for packaging and labeling lines. With a small spot size and fast response (up to 12.5 kHz), the sensor accurately detects label edges and gaps from 2mm. Available as LBX-50 (standard/low-contrast labels) or LBX-100 (transparent labels, with Custom Teach-in).

  • Detects label gaps from 2mm
  • Up to 12.5 kHz switching frequency for high-speed lines
  • LBX-100: enhanced sensitivity for transparent labels
  • Fast teach-in configuration (standard/thin/custom)
  • PNP/NPN selectable output
  • Key lock prevents unauthorized changes

LabelX label sensor — fast detection of labels and label gaps

On packaging and labeling lines, a missed or misplaced label is an immediate quality issue and often an expensive rework. EMX Industries' LabelX is a photoelectric sensor purpose-built for fast, accurate detection of labels, label edges, and label gaps on production lines across Europe.

Thanks to a small spot size combined with an extremely fast response — up to 12.5 kHz switching frequency — the LabelX distinguishes between label and gap with high spatial precision, even at high line speeds. Gaps as small as 2mm are reliably detected, critical for compact labeling applications.

LabelX is available in two versions. The LBX-50 is the standard version for opaque and low-contrast labels, with Teach-Standard and Teach-Thin modes set with a single press of the Teach key. The LBX-100 offers enhanced sensitivity for near-transparent labels and adds a Custom Teach-in function, recording separate measurements for gap and label to optimize detection of difficult materials.

Status LEDs show teach and error status at a glance, and a key lock function prevents unauthorized changes — practical on production lines with shifting personnel. The sensor offers a PNP/NPN selectable output and light-on/dark-on wiring, making integration with virtually any PLC or machine control straightforward.

The LabelX operates on a 10–30 VDC supply with a low current draw of approximately 40mA, making the sensor suitable for battery-powered or energy-efficient machine designs. The IP65 housing protects against dust and splashing water, and the operating temperature range of -20°C to +55°C (storage up to +70°C) makes the sensor suitable for both controlled production environments and less conditioned warehouse spaces. The compact M8 4-pin connector simplifies wiring and replacement during maintenance.

Applications are found primarily on packaging machinery, bottling lines, and label applicators across food & beverage, pharmaceutical, and logistics sectors, where label verification, splice detection, and label counting are essential for quality assurance and traceability.
