LEX-1000 RGB Light Sensor — Color and Light Measurement for Quality Control

The LEX-1000 measures the color characteristics of light sources and illuminated objects — unlike color sensors that measure surface color. With 4 programmable color channels, an IP67 stainless steel housing, and RS232/USB communication, the LEX-1000 is ideal for LED validation and quality control in machine building.

  • Measures light sources/illuminated objects (not surface color)
  • 4 programmable color recognition channels
  • 10-bit RGB analog output
  • IP67 stainless steel M30 housing
  • Teach function 1-100%, averaging up to 64 readings
  • RS232/USB for PC configuration and data processing

LEX-1000 RGB light sensor — color and light measurement for quality control

Where color sensors like ColorMax measure the color of physical surfaces, EMX Industries' LEX-1000 is specifically developed to analyze light sources and illuminated objects themselves — think LEDs, displays, and illuminated components. For manufacturers who need to monitor the color consistency of their own light-emitting products, that's an essential distinction.

The sensor separates incoming light into its individual red, green, and blue components and offers both 4 programmable color recognition channels and analog RGB outputs with 10-bit resolution. Once all three color values fall within the preset parameters, the LEX-1000 issues a discrete output signal — suitable for direct integration with machine control and fast pass/fail decisions on the line.

Configuration is handled via the included ColorMax Windows software, with a teach function for RGB values from 1 to 100%, programmable averaging over 1 to 64 readings for more stable results, and external triggering options. Operator lockout prevents unauthorized changes on the shop floor.

The rugged IP67 316 stainless steel housing (M30, 110×30mm) with glass window and 12-pin connector withstands dust, moisture, and chemicals, and operates reliably across a temperature range of -10°C to +55°C — suited to demanding industrial environments across Europe.

The LEX-1000 also supports external triggering, allowing measurements to be synchronized precisely with a production cycle or conveyor line. The operator lockout function prevents settings from being accidentally changed by unauthorized personnel on the shop floor — a practical safeguard in 24/7 production environments with rotating shifts. The 50 to 600mm range gives installers flexibility when positioning the sensor relative to the light object being measured.

Typical applications include LED and display validation, comparative light measurement in assembly processes, and quality control of illuminated components in the automotive, electronics, and machine building sectors.
