Magnetic vehicle detector CS202-50

For free-exit installations where power consumption is a concern — for example battery- or solar-powered access systems at remote locations — EMX Industries' CS202-50 offers a compact magnetic motion detector with remarkably low power draw.

With a standby current of just 0.25mA, the CS202-50 is even more efficient than comparable EMX detectors such as the CS101-LV, significantly extending battery life for installations without a mains connection. The sensor detects vehicles via a direct burial probe supplied pre-terminated with 15 or 30 meters (50ft) of cable, allowing the detector to be placed away from the control cabinet without separate field wiring.

Detection works, as with the VMD202 and CS101-LV, based on changes in the earth's magnetic field caused by a passing vehicle — no induction loop required. A Form C relay output allows easy integration with virtually any gate or barrier controller, and the PVC probe (610×25mm) withstands moisture and mechanical loads during underground installation.

Beyond its exceptionally low power consumption, the CS202-50 includes built-in surge protection on the probe wiring, relevant for remote installations where lightning or switching spikes pose a greater risk. Upon detection, the Form C relay switches for approximately 1 second — brief and effective enough for direct gate or barrier activation without unnecessary power draw. With an operating temperature of -40°C to +82°C and a waterproof PVC probe, the sensor withstands a wide range of European weather conditions, from harsh winters to hot summers.

Typical applications include free-exit detection at remote or solar-powered barriers, battery-powered access systems, and projects where minimal power consumption is a requirement. For security companies managing multiple remote sites, the low battery-replacement maintenance also translates into direct cost savings over the life of the installation.
