The NIR-50 is a non-monitored retroreflective photoeye with standard NC/NO contacts, a wide voltage range (12-240V) and a low power draw of 28 mA. Suited to older controllers and solar-powered installations where UL325 monitoring isn't required.

Not every installation requires monitored, UL325-compliant protection. At older gate and door controllers from before 2016, or at applications where simply reliable, non-monitored reversing detection is enough, a simpler photoeye is often both sufficient and more cost-effective. The NIR-50 is built exactly for these situations: a retroreflective photoeye with standard NC and NO contacts, without the complexity of monitoring protocols.
The NIR-50 operates across an unusually wide voltage range of 12 to 240V, both AC and DC. That makes the sensor usable with virtually any existing controller, regardless of the specific supply voltage, without needing a separate variant per voltage level.
With a current draw of only 28 mA, the NIR-50 is particularly suited to solar-powered or other low-voltage applications, where every milliamp of consumption counts toward sizing the panel and battery. That makes the sensor a logical choice for remote locations without mains power.
Like the other retroreflective photoeyes in the range, the NIR-50 uses a reflector on the opposite side of the roadway, so no cabling needs to be run to that side. That considerably simplifies installation at wider passages.
The sensor has a compact footprint, two LED indicators for quick alignment, and adjustable sensitivity. The kit comes with a mounting bracket, protective hoods for both the photoeye and the reflector, and a 1.8-metre connection cable, making installation a direct, straightforward job.
The extended range of 15 metres offers not just more installation flexibility, but also better performance in rain and snow, where signal attenuation over shorter distances can more readily cause faults.
The NIR-50 isn't UL325 compliant and therefore isn't suitable for projects requiring monitored external protection. For those applications, the NIR-50-325 or another monitored photoeye from the range is the right choice. The NIR-50 is specifically intended for non-monitored applications and older controllers.
The NIR-50 is mainly used at commercial overhead doors, gates, and parking barriers with older, non-monitored controllers, and at solar-powered or low-voltage installations where the low power draw offers a real advantage.
