Where a full loop or underground direct burial installation isn't practical, EMX's CS303-FP offers a compact solution that can be installed into the road surface with just a single saw-cut. This makes the flat pack variant particularly well-suited to retrofit projects and locations where minimal roadwork is preferred.
The sensor shares the same CS303 platform and CS303-C-1 controller as the direct burial variant, using identical 3-axis magnetoresistive detection technology for reliable vehicle recognition without a full induction loop. The flat, polyamide housing is designed for surface or shallow installation, with a 5-conductor direct burial cable for a robust connection to the controller.
Thanks to its compact build and shallow installation depth, the CS303-FP can be installed faster than a full loop or the CS303-DB variant, reducing installation time and associated roadwork — a clear advantage for time-sensitive projects or locations with limited access to the road surface.
The CS303-FP also stores calibration data in non-volatile memory, so the sensor remains operational immediately after a power interruption without reconfiguration. The NPN open-collector output provides flexible integration with the CS303-C-1 controller or compatible control systems. The polyamide housing was specifically chosen for its combination of light weight and wear resistance, essential for a sensor permanently embedded beneath the road surface that must still withstand traffic loads and chemical exposure from road salt and fuel residue.
Applications include retrofitting existing barriers and parking systems, temporary or semi-permanent installations, and projects where installation speed outweighs the durability of a fully underground solution. For installers working across multiple sites, the shorter installation time per sensor also means higher daily project throughput.
